Sam Gray of Boulder CO is a Peace Corps volunteer who is currently assigned to an ecotourism project in the Dominican Republic. He is in an area that he describes as spectacularly beautiful.
A 2013 graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Sam Gray of Boulder received his Peace Corps volunteer training in-country this past spring. He completed five weeks of daily language lessons and business training lectures, and was sworn in as a Peace Corps volunteer on May 14.
The Dominican Republic is on an island that is part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. As soon as he was sworn in as a volunteer, Sam Gray of Boulder CO was assigned to a developing kayak business (http://kayaklimon.wordpress.com) on the Laguna Limon, a wildlife refuge area on the north east coast of the country. His main job is to help with the business planning, advertising, and English development, and to spread the word about the business. Ecotourism, Sam Gray Boulder CO says, is about uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel. The business is one of kayak tours into the Laguna Limon, which is part of a system of lagoons.
For now, Sam Gray of Boulder CO is living with his host family in an assigned location. He has had to make some adjustments, and goes without many of the things that Americans take for granted, such as Internet access, hot and cold running water, and around-the-clock electricity at the flip of a switch. He is happy to report that his host family has a toilet that flushes.
